VIDEO: Immersing the project in the dye bath

In this video I'm demonstrating a single color bath; in other words, this is a full 1-color immersion.

Once you've mastered this, you can experiment with dipping or immersing one part of your project in one color, and another part in another color! There's no rule saying shibori has to be only 1 color.

These babies are taking a bath in one color, then I'll gently squeeze the excess out so it's not drippy, and dip the other side in something else.

Here's how the pieces I immersed in the video came out! Look at the difference in the shades of green: for the little t-shirt, the Moss Green didn't have anything to cover, so it's showing the pure tones. The shawl was already a deep golden brown color, so the green has a much more yellowy hue!

In this way, you can re-dye projects (or overdye items that don't start out white) until you've got colors that you're pleased with.
